What can I expect from the meeting?
In this First Stakeholder Meeting, held in English, we will present the initial results for each of the MEErP Tasks 1 to 4, emphasising areas of missing data or conflicting views. This meeting gives participants an opportunity to reflect on the first results presented in the MEErP Tasks 1 to 4 report, to comment on data gaps, and to contribute to discussion on areas with a lack of clarity or where conflicting views exist among stakeholders.  To facilitate the discussion, the first draft report of these tasks shall be sent to stakeholders prior to the meeting.

How can I provide my feedback to the topics addressed?
During the meeting, the floor will periodically be opened for questions and comments.
After the event, all presentations will be available online for registered participants.

Register as a stakeholder for project information

The European Commission has commissioned a preparatory study to investigate possible ecodesign measures for the product group tyres. This website provides the main platform for exchange of information between stakeholders, the study team and the EU Commission during the course of the study.

The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, ESPR entered into force on the 18th of July 2024 and enables setting of product performance and information-related requirements for specific product groups. These requirements are known as ‘ecodesign requirements’ and aim to make products more environmentally sustainable and circular. In April 2025, the EU Commission adopted the 2025-2030 working plan for ecodesign and energy labelling, in which tyres are listed as one of the priority products for introducing ecodesign requirements. This preparatory study aims to provide a basis on which the Commission can consider the introduction of performance and information requirements for tyres. The applicability of requirements will be investigated in a way that complements and uses synergies with existing regulations on tyres, and also ensures alignment with the ongoing review of the EU tyre labelling regulation.

This ESPR preparatory study and impact assessment support study started in March 2025 and is expected to be completed in August 2027 (for further details see Project plan). Reports and other related documents will be published in the Documents section of this website.

The preparatory study will be conducted according to the structure of the Methodology for Ecodesign of Energy-related Products (MEErP), consisting of seven tasks: Task 1 on scope, Task 2 on markets, Task 3 on user behaviour, Task 4 on technologies, Task 5 on environment and economics, Task 6 on design options, and Task 7 on policy scenarios.

The project team will invite registered stakeholders to express their views and to provide comments on draft deliverables of the Preparatory Study in writing and during two stakeholder meetings.
